Park, Nova Scotia Recreation and Leisure
The Clayton Park has some of the best recreation facilities found anywhere.
There is an indoor pool and indoor tennis courts at the Northcliff Community
Center and many facilities at the Mainland Common. The Mainland Common
is slated to be the major recreation center in HRM. As of 2008 Main Land
Common currently has 2 outdoor playing fields with artificial turf, an
indoor soccer field, a baseball field and more. Construction began in
December 2008 on metros newest recreation facility called the Mainland
Common Center. This $40 million facility will a have an 8 lane 25
meter indoor swimming pool, 3 special use pools, 52,000 sq ft field house
, a 6 lane indoor track , 11,000 sq ft fitness and wellness center and
more. This facility will be used in the 2011 Canada Games . 
There are several parks and walking trails in the Clayton Park area as
well. Hemlock Ravines Park is a 197 acre park with a heart shaped pond
and 5 trails networked together for a variety of abilities, ages, and
time allowances. A 4.5 km walking trail system called the Mainland North
Linear Parkway is also found in Clayton Park.
Clayton Park has one of the largest public libraries in Nova Scotia, Keshen
Goodman Library is located there. Clayton Park is also located next to
Bayer's Lake Shopping area where you will find big box stores such as
Costco, Winner's, Staples, Old Navy, HomeSense,
Home Depot and many many more. There are also many restaurants in Bayer's
lake including east Side Marios, Montana, Jack Aster's and others. In
Bayer's lake you will also find metro's largest movie theater complex
called Empire 18 which has 18 movie theaters including an IMAX theater.
Clayton Park has an excellent indoor theater located in the Halifax West
High School called the Bella
Rose Arts Center. This 600 seat theater is an excellent venue. Such
shows as Drum have played at this canter to sold out audiences for months.
Clayton Park has every amenity at it's doorstep including excellent recreation
centers, outdoor parks and walking trails. With the long range plans to
make the Mainland Common a central recreation location Clayton Park will
continue to lead metro in recreation opportunities.
