About Clayton Park, Nova Scotia
Clayton Park Nova Scotia is located on the edge of Halifax city. It is very well located for commuting to downtown Halifax. It is only about a 10 minute drive with no traffic and 20 minutes during peak times.
Clayton Park Nova Scotia includes two different areas, the original Clayton Park and Clayton Park West. The original Clayton Park was developed in the 1970's while Clayton Park West was developed in the 1990's. As a result the age and style of the housing available in each area is quite different.
The Clayton Park Nova Scotia area has a large population for the area it covers. The density is one of the highest in HRM, particularly in the Clayton Park West area. There is a mixture of single family, semi-detached, townhouse, condominiums and rental apartments throughout the area.
The school system in Clayton Park Nova Scotia is excellent. Some facilities are older but the education in the area is considered one of the best in HRM.
Clayton Park Nova Scotia offers many amenities. Shopping in particular is excellent. Bayer's Lake Park is located in Clayton Park West. Bayers Lake Park has become one of metro's most popular ``Big Box`` shopping areas. Metro`s largest movie theater complex and many restaurants are also located in Bayer`s Lake. Major Shopping malls such as Halifax Shopping Center and West End Mall are only a short drive away.
Recreation facilities are also excellent in the Clayton Park area. The Canada Games Center offers outstanding pool and indoor recreation facilities. Soccer Nova Scotia has an indoor soccer center and adjoining it are two year round artificial turf soccer fields. The area also has a beach volleyball section, a grassed outdoor field and much more.
Parks and walking trails are numerous in and near Clayton Park. Hemlock Ravine Park is a pleasant 197 acre wilderness getaway. Both Mainland North Linear Parkway or Kearney Lake Trail runs through much of Clayton Park.
In summary Clayton Park is a centrally located community with some of the best amenities in HRM.

The schools in Clayton Park Nova Scotia are well respected and have excellent teachers. The facilities are getting old and in some cases overcrowded but are still very good facilities.
There are several elementary schools, one junior high school. one P-9 school and one high school. All schools eventually feed into Halifax West High School. This high school was built in 2003 and has excellent facilities. It is located in the Mainland Common area of Clayton Park.
There is French Immersion in a limited number of elementary schools but is available in all schools from grade 7-12.
Shopping in Clayton Park, Nova Scotia
Clayton Park Nova Scotia has excellent shopping at its doorstep. Bayer's Lake Business Park is virtually located in Clayton Park. Here you'll find the big " box " stores such as Costco, Business Depot, Best Buy, Winners, Walmart, Home Depot, and many other. Since Clayton Park is located on the edge of Halifax city, the major malls of Halifax are a short drive away. In addition to the larger stores there are also several smaller strip malls in the Clayton Park area that have grocery stores, drug stores, restaurants and more. Shopping is very convenient in Clayton Park. Everything you need is either a short walk or drive away
Bayers Lake Park
One of the most popular shopping districts in the Halifax Regional Municipality is Bayer's Lake. This shopping area is located just outside Halifax off the #102 Hwy. It is very popular with the people who live in Clayton Park because it is so close. The big box stores such as Costco, Winner's, Staples, Best Buy, Home Depot, Old Navy, Wal Mart, HomeSense, Marshalls and many others are found here. This is one of the fastest growing shopping areas in all of Nova Scotia with new stores opening all the time .

Clayton Park Nova Scotia has some of the best recreation facilities found anywhere.
The Canada Games Center is an indoor recreation center that opened in 2011. This facility has an 8 lane 25 meter indoor swimming pool, 3 special use pools, 52,000 sq ft field house , a 6 lane indoor track , 11,000 sq ft fitness and wellness center and more.
There are indoor tennis courts at the Northcliff Center and many facilities at the Mainland Common. The Mainland Common is slated to be the major recreation center in HRM. The Main Land Common currently has 2 outdoor playing fields with artificial turf, an indoor soccer field, a baseball field and more.
There are several parks and walking trails in the Clayton Park Nova Scotia area as well. Hemlock Ravines Park is a 197 acre park with a heart shaped pond and 5 trails networked together for a variety of abilities, ages, and time allowances. A 4.5 km walking trail system called the Mainland North Linear Parkway is also found in Clayton Park.
Clayton Park has one of the largest public libraries in HRM, the Keshen Goodman Library.
Clayton Park is also located next to Bayer's Lake Shopping area where you will find big box stores such as Costco, Winner's, Staples, Old Navy, HomeSense, Home Depot and many many more. There are also many restaurants in Bayer's lake including East Side Marios, Montanas, Jack Aster's and others. In Bayer's lake you will also find metro's largest movie theater complex with 18 movie theaters including an IMAX theater.
Clayton Park has an excellent indoor theater located in the Halifax West High School called the Bella Rose Arts Center. This 600 seat theater is an excellent venue.
Clayton Park has excellent amenities.
Commuting from Clayton Park
There are a several options in HRM for getting to and from work or school. Unfortunately there are no train or subway systems. However you can drive, take a bus, take a ferry, drive a bike or use a combination of these. Which method you might choose will depend on where you live. For example if you live in Dartmouth you might use the ferry on a regular basis. A ferry runs from two locations in Dartmouth to downtown Halifax. Commuters will either take a bus or drive to the ferry terminal and then take a ferry to Halifax. Ferries take about 12 minutes each way.
The bus system in HRM run by Metro Transit is not perfect but is always improving. Metro Transit runs the bus system in HRM. Buses run on regular schedule 7 days a week in Clayton Park so many commuters us the bus to get around.
Cost and availability of parking in Halifax might be a consideration for the means of transportation you choose. Parking is very limited and the cost can be high. If you are in the military there is limited parking at the Halifax dockyard, on a first come first served basis, and some limited off site parking on the streets. For this reason many military commuters often decide not to drive to work.
