Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Recreation and Leisure
Dartmouth
is a fair size city so there are very few recreation and leisure activities
that can't be found in the city. Dartmouth has excellent indoor recreation centers at Dartmouth Sportsplex and Cole Harbour Place. The Dartmouth Sportsplex offers two indoor pools, including Treasure Cove, which has several large water slides, an indoor track, rink, fitness center and more. Cole Harbour Place offers two rinks, pool complex, squash courts, fitness center, and community meeting rooms, a library and more. Cole Harbour Place is the newer of the two facilities.
Paddling is very popular in Dartmouth, which is understandable since it is nicknamed the
" City of Lakes" because it has over 25 lakes. World Class paddlers from Dartmouth have won Olympic and World Championship medals. The city has wonderful paddling clubs in Senobe Aquatic Club, Banook Canoe Club, Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club, Abenaki Aquatic Club and others. Dartmouth has hosted international competitions including the ICF World Senior Canoe Championships in August, 2009.
Dartmouth has 3 excellent golf courses. All offer yearly memberships and green fee play. Brightwood Golf Course is an
excellent
older city course located in the middle of the city in the north end close
to Crichton Park and Lancaster Ridge Subdivision. This is slighter shorter
(Par 67) but challenging course with several interesting holes. Grandview
Golf Course is located on the Westphal end of Dartmouth not far from
Cole Harbour and the Forest Hills Subdivision. This course is an18 hole
par 72 course with a combination of tight well treed holes and more open
links style holes. Links
of Montague is one of the best manicured executive 9 hole course and
golf training facilities you will find anywhere. The fairways of this course
areas good as many greens in other courses. Located off the #7 Highway not
far from Grandview, this course also offers one of the best driving ranges
in Canada. There are plenty of outdoor sports fields so sports such as soccer, football, baseball etc are very popular in Dartmouth. Many of the
organized
sports are operated by private associations run by volunteers. There are
several rinks in Dartmouth so hockey, ringette and figure skating are also
very popular activities. Outdoor water activities such as swimming or skating
at one of the many lakes in Dartmouth are also enjoyed by the residents.
Dartmouth has some of the best shopping in Atlantic Canada. Dartmouth Crossing is the newest shopping area in metro. It is a massive shopping district that combines big box stores with main street style of shopping. At Dartmouth Crossing you will find big box stores such as Costco, Winner's, Staples, Best Buy and many more as well as stores such as Tommy Hilfiger, Reitmans and others. Dartmouth also has the largest Mall in Atlantic Canada called Mic Mac Mall. This mall has over 160 shops and services.
There's is lots of do in Dartmouth. The city offers something for every age and interest. It has some of the best facilities in Atlantic Canada.
