Schools for Hammond's Plains / Tantallon, Nova Scotia
Hammonds Plains has excellent schools. Many of the facilities are new or almost new. In Sept 2006 Sir John A MacDonald School opened a new school in the area. In Sept 2005 Kingswood Elementary was opened for the first time. Madelaine Symonds opened in 1999. So the community has several newer facilities.
The area has excellent French Immersion opportunities. All 3 elementary schools offer Early Immersion and all junior and senior high schools offer late immersion. So wherever you live in Hammonds Plains your child can have french immersion from grade primary to grade 12. For info on Early and Late French Immersion click here: French Immersion

Kingswood Elementary School

Kingswood Elementary School opened its doors for the first time Sept 2005. The school offers grades primary to grade 6. The school is located in the Kingswood Subdivision off Vrege Court and Brenda Drive. All the children in Kingswood and Blue Mountain Estates Subdivisions attend this school as well as the children outside the subdivision up to the intersection of Lucasville Road and Hammond's Plains Road.

Children who live in Glen Arbour, White Hills, Maplewood Village, Cedarwood and Highland Park attend Hammond's Plains Consolidated School for grades primary to grade 5. The school offers English and Early French Immersion. The school has undergone a major renovation in 1995. It is located on the Hammond's Plains Rd about 7 kms from Bedford. It is not far from most subdivisions. Children are bussed to and from the school. The school has 22 classrooms, 560 students, a gymnasium, cafeteria and two computers in every classroom.You can contact the school by calling 902-832-8412.

Tantallon Elementary School

Children who live in Haliburton Hills, Westwood Hills and the farthest ends of Hammond's Plains attend Tantallon Elementary for grades primary to 6. The school is located at the end of Hammond's Plains Road just past Haliburton Hills Subdivision and the exit to the 103 Hwy. on French Village Road, next to Tantallon Junior High School. The school offers English and Early French Immersion. The school has approximately 400 students. It was built in 1980. The school has a library and gymnasium .Children who attend this school will attend Five Bridges Junior High for grades 7-9 and Sir John A. MacDonald High for grades 10-12. Most children from Hammond's Plains including Kingswood, Glen Arbour, White Hills,Cedarwood, Maplewood Village and Highland Park attend the Madeline Symonds Middle School for grades 6-9 (Kingswood Elementary school children attend from grades 7-9) This is a newer 18 classroom school opened it's doors in October, 1999. The school has capacity for 660 students. The school is located in the White Hills Subdivision about 2 and a 1/4 miles from the entrance to Kingswood and about a 1/4 mile from Hammond's Plains Consolidated School. The school offers English and Early French Immersion. One of the best equipped schools in the Province the school has 18 classrooms and support areas, a library and resource center, science laboratory, visual arts spaces and technology and family studies area, a gymnasium and cafeteria. Ecole Five Bridges Junior High

Five Bridges Junior High, which is located in the former Sir John A. MacDonald building, is located 66 Hubley Road, Hubley, NS. Children who live in Westwood Hills and Haliburton Hills attend this school for grades 7 to 9. They are bussed. The school offers English and French Immersion. Most children from Hammond's Plains including those that live in Kingswood, Glen Arbour, White Hills and Highland Park,(not Haliburton Hills or Westwood Hills), attend CP Allen High in Bedford for grades 10-12. It is located on Rocky Lake Road in Bedford which is about 10-1 5 kms from most subdivisions. CP Allen is considered one of the top high schools in Nova Scotia with particular strengths in math and science..The school offers English and French Immersion.
