| Shopping
in Hammonds Plains is limited but getting better all the time. There
are no large shopping malls as such but there are several strip malls
that provide much of what is needed on a daily basis. There is a smaller
strip mall (photo of mall) located
at the entrance to Kingswood Subdivision which has a
grocery store, Tim Horton's Donuts and a few other businesses. On the
first street to the left in Voyageur Lake Estates
,on Appaloosa Run, there are a few office/retail buildings that have
services such as medical/dental offices, Curves Gym and some retail.
There is also a strip mall close to Hammonds Plains Elementary
School and close to the entrance to Glen Arbour Subdivision. This mall
has a medical center, drugstore and a few complimentary businesses.
The largest shopping location in the area is located at the Tantallon
end of Hammonds Plains. It is called the Hubley
Center Shopping Center. This center has many stores and services
including a library, a hardware store, restaurants and fast food, Dollar
Store, medical offices, gym and more. This mall is located very close
to Westwood Hills and Haliburton Hills Subdivision and a short drive
from White Hills and Highland Park. It is a bit far from Kingswood so
residents of Kingswood are more likely to drive to Bedford or Halifax
to shop.
Many of the residents of Hammonds Plains shop in nearby Bedford. Bedford
is only 5-12 kms from most areas of Hammonds Plains. There are two medium
size shopping malls in Bedford , Sunnyside
Mall and Bedford
Place Mall.
The Sunnyside Mall in Bedford is considered a higher end shopping center
where you can find more brand name items and designer clothes. It's
anchor stores are Canadian Tire, Lawton's Drug Store, Mark's Work Warehouse
and Pete's Frooteque(which has the possibly the best selection of fruit
and vegetables in Nova Scotia as well as most grocery items). Pete's
is one of the few metro stores open on Sunday.
The Bedford Place Mall has over 50 shops and services and provides several
quality shopping destinations. The anchor stores at Bedford Place are
Zellers, Winners, Atlantic Superstore grocery store (owned by Loblaws)
, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dollarama and the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission.
Hammonds
Plains residents also have easy access to Bayer's
Lake Business Park in Halifax where the big " box " stores such
as Costco Wholesale, Staples, Future Shop, Winners, Old Navy, Homesense,
Linens N Things, Home Depot, Zellers and many others are located. Only
a 10 minute drive away this is a popular shopping location.
Shopping in both Halifax
and Dartmouth offer excellent shopping only a few minutes drive away. Because
the Halifax metro area is Nova Scotia's largest urban center it is also
the regional shopping area. There are major malls in Halifax such as
Halifax Shopping Center, Park Place, West End Mall and The Village at
Bayer's Road. In Dartmouth you will find Mic Mall Mall(the largest shopping
mall east of Montreal) and Penhorn Mall.
