About Kingswood Subdivision

Long LakeKingswood Subdivision was developed by the Armoyan Group of companies in the early 1990's. It has become one of metros most beautiful and most popular subdivisions and for good reason. Several lakes and large treed lots combine to make one of the most serene locations anywhere.
Kingswood is located in Hammonds Plains about 3 miles outside of Bedford and about 15 miles to Halifax. It consists of just under 900 single family detached houses situated on lots that range from 3/4 acre to 5 acres with the average being just over 1 acre. What has helped make the area so popular is that most of the subdivision has municipal water. This is very rare for subdivisions on the outside of the city. Typically homes in this type of subdivision would have well and septic and no municipal water. Some of the homes do have wells, which is not a problem whatsoever, and all have septic systems. Steet ViewThere is no municipal sewer in the area. If municipal water is important to you than be sure to check the listing to see that the home has municipal water.
What attracts people to Kingswood is the space. Because the lots are larger there is usually a lot of space between houses. The area is very quiet and peaceful and gives you a sense that you are living in the country when you are only minutes to all amenities. The area has a good mix of young families and older residents. There are lots of children in the area but also areas with fewer children. The lakes in the area provide swimming in the summer and some skating in the winter. Long Lake is large enough for boating and has several places for swimming. There are also playgrounds in the area with swing sets and other play equipment for the young children. A small commercial center at the entrance to the subdivision has a small grocery store and a Tim Horton's.Mall at entrance What else would you need?. Bedford, which is only a few minutes away, has a couple of medium size malls and two large grocery stores so shopping is not a real problem. If you're looking for a peaceful serene area with larger lots a little bit outside the city than Kingswood might be worth considering.
Getting to Halifax from Kingswood is a breeze. The city is about 15 miles from Kingswood and will take 20 minutes on off peak times and 30-45 on peak traffic times. There are several options to travel to Halifax. The most popular way is to take the Hammonds Plains Road, which is a secondary highway , towards Bedford about 2 miles to the 102 (or the Bi-Centennial as it is called here) which is a divided four lane highway that takes you to Halifax. This is the probably the fastest way to get to the city.
A second option is to take the Hammonds Plains Road to the Kearney Lake Road ,which has an exit to the 102 about 3 miles in, or can connect to a more scenic drive along the Bedford Basin along the Bedford Highway to Halifax.
A third option which is popular with working parents who choose to drive there children to school, is to take the Hammonds Plains Road towards Tantallon and connect with the 103 to Halifax. The 103 is a also a good highway. This trip is definitely a bit longer but the route to it takes you by the elementary and middle schools so can be a bit more convenient for some. With three options to get to Halifax you have choices in the case of an accident on one route.
Kingswood is a wonderful place to live and a location you should consider when moving to the Halifax metro area. For more information email me at sandy@sandyhines.com or phone 902-489-4663.
