Halifax is the capital of Nova Scotia and it's largest metropolitan area. As result the largest most advanced medical centers in the Province are located in Halifax. The Queen Elizabeth 11 Health Sciences Centre  is an advanced medical center with the latest in equipment and medical expertise. It is here where you would go for many major medical procedures and operations. The facility is a result of the merging of several medical facilities into one.
Halifax also has one of the finest children's and woman's services facilities in all of Canada. The IWK Heath Centre, is world renowned for it's child care. The IWK now incorporates the former Grace Maternity Hospital. This is one of the finest hospitals in the country for assisting woman in child birth.
Dartmouth also has it's own hospital called the Dartmouth General Hospital. It provides services to approximately 120,000 people in Dartmouth and surrounding areas. Hospital services include 24-hour
emergency care, inpatient medical and surgical care and critical care.
The surgery program includes general surgery, urology, gynaecology, ear nose and throat, orthopedics, plastics, oral maxillofacial, ophthalmology, vascular and dentistry.The hospital offers extensive outpatient services, outreach programs and medical diagnostics including general radiography, mammography, CT scanning, laboratory services and renal dialysis.
In the Bedford/ Sackville/Fall River/Hammonds Plains areas there is a well respected medical facility which is used for emergencies and blood tests, x-rays and other tests. The Cobequid Community Heath Centre located on the Bedford end of Lower Sackville is only a few minutes drive from any of the communities. It is open everyday and provides excellent medical service. A new expanded facility opened in spring of 2006. This facility offers emergency service as well as many tests saving longer drives to Halifax.

Medical care in the Halifax area is the best in Nova Scotia and should not be a concern to you if you're considering a move to the area.
