Overview of Hammonds Plains/Tantallon
Hammonds Plains is located between 25 and 30 Kms from downtown Halifax. It is an area of large lots, trees and many lakes surrounded by beautiful homes. Lots are typically an acre or larger so there is a great feeling of space. Nature is at your doorstep with deer, bunnies, pheasants, etc.
Housing ranges from smaller older homes to rambling executive homes. There is no municipal sewer anywhere in the area. All homes have septic systems. Most houses have no municipal water with the exception of Kingswood Subdivision where much of the subdivision has municipal water.
Hammonds Plains has some amenities but not as many as you would find in the more urban core of HRM. There is some local shopping, restaurants and medical services available.
Schooling in Hammonds Plains can best be described as excellent. All schools offer French Immersion education.
Most residents drive their cars to commute to work. The commute to Halifax is reasonable and ranges from 20-40 minutes. There is an express bus called the Metro X that travels to Halifax from the Hubley Center Mall during peak times and other limited bussing during the day.
For recreation many sports are available in the area or close by.
