About Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia
The Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia (often called BLT) area is a popular and affordable residential area on the fringe of Halifax. It is located off exit 3 of the #103 Hwy on the St. Margaret's Bay Road , just past Bayer's Lake Park. It is a good commute to Halifax of about 20 minutes. In real estate when people refer to Timberlea they are often describing three areas that are joined together. Beechville, Lakeside and Timberlea are also called BLT.
There is a wide range of housing available in the Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia area. There is everything from affordable semi-detached to some larger executive type homes. New homes are also available in the area. Brunello Estates is the newest subdivision. This subdivision has an 18 hole golf course, called Links of Brunello, in the subdivision. Brunello Estates residents can buy yearly memberships at discounted prices. The golf course opened in 2015.
There is a good school system in Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia that consists a few elementary schools, a middle school and a junior high school. Children are bussed to Tantallon to Sir John A Macdonald High School.
The area is very close to excellent shopping in Bayer's Lake Park where you'll find the big box stores such as Costco, Winner's, Old Navy and many more.
There are some recreation facilities in the area and excellent facilities close by. A fabulous walking trail has been developed along an abandoned rail line. The trail is called " BLT RAILS TO TRAILS" and is a wonderful place to walk, ride a bike or ride your ATV. The Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia area is only a 10 minute drive to the Mainland Common North recreation area in Clayton Park where the Canada Games Center, indoor and outdoor soccer fields and more are located.
The Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia area has become one of metros most popular residential communities particularly with military buyers. It is a convenient area with a reasonable commute to Halifax.

The Beechville Lakeside Timberlea (BLT) school system consists of one elementary school that is operated out of two schools located next to each other, one middle school, one junior high school and one high school.
All children attend the same schools from grades primary to 12. For grades primary to 5 they attend the Beechville Lakeside Timberlea School that is located in Greenwood Heights Subdivision on James Street. For grades 6 to grade 9 they attend Ridgecliff Middle School which was built in 1999 and is located in Beechville Estates Subdivision. For high school all the children are bussed to Tantallon to Sir John A MacDonald High School.
French Immersion is available in the area for grades primary to grade 12.
Things to do inTimberlea Beechville Nova Scotia
There are few recreation facilities located in the Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia area but there are fantastic facilities close by. There is one of the best golf courses in Atlantic Canada located in Timberlea, The Links of Brunello. The area also has a fabulous walking trail along an abandoned railway line called BLT Rail to Trails. This 9 km trail system is a very popular area for walkers, runners and owners of recreation vehicles. There are some outdoor sports fields in the area so sports such as soccer, football and baseball are common.
Many of the recreation facilities used by BLT residents are found in Clayton Park, which is only a few minute drive away. Clayton Park has some of the best recreation facilities found anywhere.
The Canada Games Center is an indoor recreation center that opened in 2011. This facility has an 8 lane 25 meter indoor swimming pool, 3 special use pools, 52,000 sq ft field house , a 6 lane indoor track , 11,000 sq ft fitness and wellness center and more.
There is another indoor pool and indoor tennis courts at the Northcliff Center and many facilities at the Mainland Common. The Mainland Common is slated to be the major recreation center in HRM. The Main Land Common currently has 2 outdoor playing fields with artificial turf, an indoor soccer field, a baseball field and more.
The salt water beaches of the south shore such Queensland and Hubbards are a 20-30 minute drive away. The BLT area is very well located to take advantage of this feature and many of the residents do just that.
The Beechville/Lakeside/Timberlea area has lots of recreation opportunities for all ages and interest. If not in the community itself they are found a short drive away.
Shopping in Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia
There is limited shopping right in the Timberlea Beechville Nova Scotia area that would include convenience stores, fast food, some grocery and other small specialty stores.
Many of the residents of the area shop at Bayers Lake Park which is only a few minute drive away. Excellent shopping in the city of Halifax is also only a short drive away. There is also some shopping in Tantallon which is about 15 minutes away.
Bayers Lake Park
One of the most popular shopping districts in the Halifax Regional Municipality is Bayer's Lake. This shopping area is located just outside Halifax off the #102 Hwy. It is very popular with the people who live in Beechville/ Timberlea because it is so close. The big box stores such as Costco, Winner's, Staples, Best Buy, Home Depot, Old Navy, Wal-Mart, Home Sense, Marshalls and many others are found here. This is one of the fastest growing shopping areas in all of Nova Scotia with new stores opening all the time .
Commuting Times and Options in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM)
There are a several options in HRM for getting to and from work or school. Unfortunately there are no train or subway systems. However you can drive, take a bus, take a ferry, drive a bike or use a combination of these. Which method you might choose will depend on where you live. .
The bus system in HRM run by Metro Transit is not perfect but is always improving. Buses run on regular schedule in Timberlea Beechville 7 days a week so many use the bus to commute to work.
Cost and availability of parking in Halifax might be a consideration for the means of transportation you choose. Parking is very limited and the cost can be high. If you are in the military there is limited parking at the Halifax dockyard, on a first come first served basis, and some limited off site parking on the streets. For this reason many military commuters often decide not to drive to work.
